Hi Tammy,

I'm so sorry to hear that you and Katiegirl are having such a rough time right now. I've moved your original post to the area for "Diabetes" so that others that are familiar with diabetes can share their experience with you.
According to this web site:
http://www.animaleyecare.net/diseases/C ... icDogs.htm

75% of diabetic dogs develop cataracts and blindness in both eyes within one year of being diagnosed, and that cataracts can develop very quickly, and even overnight. There can be some other possible complications if cataracts are not treated, like uveitis or glaucoma, so it sounds like Katiegirl needs to see a veterinary ophthalmologist (if she hasn't yet) to find out exactly what is happening with her eyes.

I'm assuming that the hair loss/weight loss may also be connected to her being diabetic. I'm including some links to different sites with info that might be helpful:
http://www.caninediabetes.org/
http://www.petdiabetes.org/
http://www.blinddog.info/diabetes.htm
http://www.vetinfo4dogs.com/ddiabt.html

Hang in there... and please keep us posted on how Katiegirl is doing.

Hi Tammy, I know exactly how your feeling. We have an 8 yr old min pin with diabetes and cushings, diagnosed back in February. He developed cataracts about 3 months later, now is blind. The first week was alittle rough for him, but now doing wonderful. I have more of a problem than he does. His favorite part of the day is going for walks. I took him to an eye specialist and was told it would cost 3000.00 for surgery, that's just the surgery and doesn't include follow ups or medicine. We just couldn't afford to have it done. I hope your baby is doing better. From what we have experienced, I'm sure he will be just fine. Let us know
