should i consider eye removal?

Postby Rushlight on Mon Jun 14, 2010 4:19 pm

I have a 5 yo pit mix who is blind due to glaucoma in both eyes. She has adjusted wonderfully.

My concern is that she is pain, at least some of the time. She is on the hightest dose of both the pill and drops. She seems to do pretty well, acting as if she is in no pain most of the time, but her pressures are always high when I go to the vet.

My question is: should I consider eye removal? She's happy and content, possibly the best dog we have ever owned.

However, to my great shame, I sometimes forget to give her her meds. I'm supposed to give them 3x per day, but when I'm working sometimes I forget since my mind is distrated by life, I guess.

I guess I need someoene to talk to me.

n/m

went ahead and called vet. she said that in most cases the meds quit working. she really thought surgery was the best option. have set up appt for surgery. depending on how well she does, they may take both eyes at once.

thx for letting me vent.

Wishing you all the best with her surgery, and hopefully they will be able to do both eyes at once and she'll be done with it.. .no more pain, no more worries about meds! :D Please keep us posted on how she's doing, okay?
